The burial of Daniel “Sniper” Muthiani, a prominent Meru-based blogger who was murdered over a year ago, has been indefinitely postponed.
This delay is due to a complex land dispute involving a prominent businessman and alleged political interference
According to reports, initially scheduled for December 13, 2024, and later rescheduled to December 27, the funeral has been delayed as the family finds themselves without a burial site.
Daniel Muthiani, known for his outspoken blogging under the pseudonym “Sniper,” went missing on December 2, 2023.
Authorities later discovered his decomposed body in the Mutonga River, revealing signs of strangulation and other injuries that indicate a violent death.
Investigators have charged five suspects in connection with Daniel ‘Sniper’ Muthiani abduction and murder.
However, the family continue to demand the arrest of those who orchestrated the heinous act.
Emerging Land Dispute Disrupt Sniper’s Burial
The family’s plans to lay Daniel ‘Sniper’ Muthiani to rest have faced significant obstacles due to a recently revealed land dispute.
This dispute has complicated the burial arrangements and has led to tensions within the community.
According to reports, a prominent businessman, Moses Lichoro, claims ownership of the land where the family intended to bury Muthiani.
Lichoro asserts that he legally purchased the 30-acre parcel from Muthiani’s deceased father in February 2023 and holds the title deed.
He claims that a mob vandalized the land and destroyed his property in February, resulting in substantial financial setbacks.
On the other hand, Muthiani’s family contends that they were unaware of the land sale and have received threats from Lichoro to vacate the property.
Muthiani’s mother, Ann Kanjira, expressed concerns for her family’s safety.
She alleged that Lichoro plans to enclose the contested property.
The family has notified the police of the threats and is awaiting a response.

Allegations of Political Interference
Allegations have emerged linking a prominent politician to the delay of Daniel ‘Sniper’ Muthiani’s burial.
Community sources suggest that political interests may have influenced the ongoing land dispute surrounding the burial site.
However, it is important to note that these allegations have not been substantiated.
They have contributed to the growing tension and calls for transparency in the case.
The indefinite postponement of Muthiani’s burial has sparked outrage within the Meru community and among human rights activists.
Local leaders and community members continue to rally support for the family.
Legal experts have pointed out that the land dispute further complicates the family’s pursuit of justice for Muthiani’s murder.
The case is scheduled for mention on February 4, 2025, with a trial anticipated in June 2025.
However, the unresolved land issues and allegations of political interference may impede the legal process.
