Kenyans invited to attend open days across 24 locations to inspect 4,888 affordable housing units and explore flexible payment options under the government’s initiative. They can ask questions about the programme, and register for homeownership via Boma Yangu.

The initiative, overseen by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, is a key step in addressing Kenya’s growing housing gap by providing accessible and affordable homeownership options for citizens.

Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga encouraged potential homeowners to use the holiday season to explore the 24 project sites across Kenya, including in Machakos.

The open days will provide an opportunity for visitors to tour completed units, speak directly with programme representatives, and learn about the registration process on the Boma Yangu portal.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore flexible payment plans and the different housing typologies available, catering to a wide range of needs.

The Machakos project features a total of 160 units, which include 40 one-bedroom homes, 60 two-bedroom homes, and 60 three-bedroom homes, all designed with generous green spaces and adequate parking.

The 4,888 units on offer across the country are intended for a diverse demographic, with housing options ranging from affordable units for low-income earners to homes tailored for the middle class.

To make the homes more accessible, the government is offering various payment options.

Buyers can choose to pay in instalments, use a rent-to-own scheme that extends up to 25 years, or opt for a lump-sum payment.

This flexible approach aims to ensure that homeownership becomes a reality for more Kenyans, regardless of income level.

The open days will also serve as an informative platform for those interested in the Boma Yangu initiative, which is designed to simplify the path to homeownership through easy registration and the ability to save for a home deposit via the Boma Yangu savings wallet.

As the government continues to expand the Affordable Housing Programme, additional projects are expected to come online soon. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of providing decent, affordable homes for all citizens and addressing the country’s housing shortage.

Interested individuals can visit the eCitizen portal to register, create a Boma Yangu account, and begin contributing to their home savings plan.
