The Affordable Housing Programme team on Wednesday provided an update on its ongoing housing projects across Kenya, with a particular focus on several developments in the Coastal region.
The showcased projects included Mtwapa Mini City, Tezo AHP, Matuga AHP, Nyali AHP, and Voi, all part of the government’s wider efforts to address the country’s housing deficit and offer affordable housing options to low and middle-income earners.
The initiative has had a notable economic impact, creating over Ksh 4 billion worth of jobs in the Jua Kali sector, thanks to the demand for construction materials like cement and steel and the employment of local labor on various housing projects. Currently, more than 200,000 people are employed across these projects.
With 100 housing projects in progress across 45 counties, the programme is on track to deliver 135,515 units.
Despite the annual housing demand in Kenya standing at 250,000 units, the market currently produces just 50,000 annually, making this initiative a critical step towards bridging the gap.
To date, over 550,000 Kenyans have registered through the Boma Yangu platform, with some housing units expected to be ready for allocation and occupation by early 2025.
Interested individuals can continue to register on the official Boma Yangu website.
As the programme progresses, it remains a key government priority, aiming to provide safe, affordable housing to citizens across the nation.
